“The reasoning of the Constitutional Court in the case of Ms. Sosoacă reinforces the discussion regarding the need for an extensive reform of the CCR. This discussion must start from the reality that the current procedure turns the CCR into a court that does not give the person in question the right to defense or appeal. That is why I believe that between the BEC and the CCR there should be a filter of legality that only the High Court of Cassation and Justice can ensure. This is where we have to start the discussion, so that there is no trace of doubt”. wrote Marcel Ciolacu, on Facebook.
The Prime Minister also said that he will never enter into “this unconscious electoral gallop practiced by some candidates” again “the only rational and serious discussion in society must be related to the CCR reform”.
“However, I have a big dilemma. How much of an atrophied common sense muscle must you have to argue loudly that certain parties should be outlawed on the grounds of extremism, but then stand up for someone who advocates legionnaires’ and Jew-hatred? ! Even in an election campaign, there are certain red lines that must not be crossed. In order not to throw Romanian society back 50 years ago. I will never enter into this unconscious electoral gallop practiced by some candidates. The only rational and serious discussion in society must be related to the CCR reform. And that’s what I will do“, said Marcel Ciolacu.
