The incident was reported on a Facebook group for the holidays, where the family said that the wallet was hidden in a closet, but that did not prevent the staff from stealing money. The missing amount included several 50 euros banknotes. However, the thief left the lower value banknotes, the Romanian coins and lions, according to Click!
“We are for the first time in Crete (and in Greece, by the way) and also for the first time we were stolen a certain amount of money from the wallet that was in the hotel room, hidden in the closet. We reported this incident to the hotel, but they gave us a short answer, as” they will investigate “and so on,” The Romanians wrote in the post.
They mentioned other dissatisfaction with the accommodation conditions. According to the post, the cleaning staff used to enter the room daily without prior announcement, which they perceived as intrusive and disrespectful for the intimacy of the guests.
“In addition, we are doing ‘cleaning’ daily in the rooms, without being announced beforehand-at least we were hiding the money better. What seems fun is to us that all € 50 banknotes took us, but they left us small banknotes and coins, but also the Romanian lions. 5 stars I have to go with the wallet to the beach, at the table or anywhere else ”, they added.
Reactions online
Many Internet users have expressed their support, and some have shared similar experiences, warning of risks, even in luxury units. In the comments, the Romanians also received useful tips on the legal steps they can follow: notifying the Local Police, requesting an official report from the hotel and, if necessary, contacting the Romanian Embassy in Athens for consular support.
Other users urged them not to make high hopes for the recovery of money, but encouraged them to file a complaint for the situation to be officially documented and may prevent similar incidents for other tourists.
