Inter have confirmed the departure of four of the most experienced players in the squad: Yann Sommer (37), Stefan de Vrij (34), Francesco Acerbi (38) and Matteo Darmian (36), thus marking the end of an important phase for the Italian club.
The first footballer whose departure was officially announced was goalkeeper Yann Sommer. He arrived at Inter in the summer of 2023, following his transfer from Bayern Munich, and played for Giuseppe Meazza’s side for three seasons. During this period, the Swiss goalkeeper made 139 appearances, managing to keep a clean sheet in 66 of them, while in the rest of the games he conceded 120 goals.
“139 total appearances, keeping 66 clean sheets: Yann Sommer left an indelible mark on Inter’s history. Thanks, Yann: it was great to win together!”Inter sent, through an official statement.
“Acerbi’s journey is over!”
Shortly after, the Milanese club also announced the parting with veteran Francesco Acerbi: “Even the most beautiful journeys come to an end. Acerbi’s in the Nerazzurri shirt ended in the best possible way, with a historic ‘double’ crowning four seasons at the highest level, with 148 appearances, 5 goals, 6 trophies won and some of the most beautiful images in Inter’s history. Thanks Francesco: it was great to win together!”.
Francesco Acerbi has played for Inter since the 2022/2023 season, when he was brought in on loan from Lazio. After the first year, the Milanese club decided to transfer him permanently. In total, the Italian defender collected 148 matches in the shirt of the Nerazzurri, but in the recently concluded season he lost his status as an undisputed starter. Acerbi made only 26 appearances, being used by Cristi Chivu in 18 of the 38 stages in the championship.
Inter’s run of departures continued with Matteo Darmian and Stefan de Vrij
The Italian defender spent five seasons at Milan, during which time he made 218 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 13 times and providing as many assists. The last season, however, was a difficult one for Darmian, affected by several medical problems that limited him to only nine appearances. Cristi Chivu offered him the chance to perform in the last match played by Inter on home soil, a gesture by which the veteran could say goodbye to the supporters.
The Dutch international, on the other hand, spent eight years at Inter and was one of the most important men in defense during this period. De Vrij made 296 appearances for Milan, becoming one of the iconic players of the last decade for the club.
