Criatian Terheș submitted a new request to the CCR to cancel the first round of the presidential elections, after the declassification of the CSAT documents

December 5, 2024

MEP Cristian Terheș submitted a new request asking the Constitutional Court to cancel the 1st round of the presidential elections. The request concerns the documents declassified by CSAT, which showed that there is a “state actor” behind Călin Georgescu’s campaign.

“According to the documents given by the CSAT, there are new data, new documents, and in their light I requested the CCR to review the decision by which my previous request was rejected as unfounded”said Terhe.

The MEP explained that he requested the review of the decision by which the appeal he had previously filed was rejected as unfounded. “Although we had among the points also bots used by Călin Georgescu’s campaign. In the context of the CSAT documents I decided to request this”Terheș also said.

Cristian Terheș also submitted a request to cancel the first round of the presidential elections on November 24, which led to the postponement of the validation of the elections. The constitutional judges ordered a recount of the votes. In the end, the request was rejected by the CCR.

Terheș then accused the fraud of the first round of voting, invoking the voting instructions made by USR members while Romanians in the diaspora were still voting. According to the party leader, the rules were broken including by the candidate ranked first, Călin Georgescu, the elections being rigged.

Cristian Terheş ran for the Romanian National Conservative Party and obtained 95,782 votes in the first round of the presidential elections, representing 1.04%.

Other notices were submitted by SNSPA and Calea Europeana, requesting the cancellation of the first round, but also the removal of Călin Georgescu from the presidential race.

What the declassified documents from the CSAT meeting show

CSAT declassified on Wednesday, December 4, documents from the defense and security institutions regarding Călin Georgescu’s TikTok campaign.

SRI informed that the network of 25,000 accounts through which Călin Georgescu was promoted became very active two weeks before the elections. More than 700 accounts were created since 2016 and had reduced activity until November 11, 2024.

The document states that the activity of the TikTok accounts was organized on Telegram, with some groups being established as early as 2022.

The SRI also points out aspects related to the financing mechanisms of the electoral campaign, confirming the involvement of Bogdan Peschir, known as “bogpr”, in financing the promotion of Călin Georgescu.

Romania is a target for aggressive Russian hybrid actions, including cyber attacks, information leaks (hacks and leaks) and sabotage, the Foreign Intelligence Service showed in the information note sent to the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country gathered on November 28.
