Die Antwoord, Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, has conquered the global audience through its unique hip-hop, rap and EDM mix, combined with a provocative visual aesthetic. Formed in 2008, the controversial band composed of vocalists Yolandi Visser, Ninja and their producer, DJ Hi-Tek, is known for the “Trashy” and modern style, inspired by the works of Roger Ballen and on the South African counter-culture.
Their success came quickly with the release of the debut album $ O $which attracted international attention due to iconic video Enter the ninja. Since then the band has launched hits like I fink u freeky, Baby’s on Fire, Ugly boy and Cookie Thumper!becoming one of the most controversial and appreciated bands in the world. In addition to music, Die Antwoord impresses with visual creativity, their videos being true works of cinematic art. In 2014, the band was the headliner of the Castle Electric Festival.
In 2019, Die Antwoord took a break from constant tournaments around the world to dedicate themselves to their biggest passions: creating music and art. Five years later, in 2024, the band launched a documentary “Zef: the story of Die Antwoord”, produced and directed by the South African filmmaker. The storyteller’s storyteller is Sixteen Jones, the daughter of Ninja and Yolandi.
