EXCLUSIVE. Elena Lasconi, USR candidate in the presidential elections: “I can no longer be a spectator and see how the country is going”

On Saturday, June 29, Elena Lasconi was officially designated the USR candidate for this fall’s presidential elections, obtaining 94.32% of the delegates’ votes at the USR Congress in Bucharest.

After counting the votes of the 600 delegates at the USR Extraordinary Congress, Elena Lasconi, USR president, obtained 94.32%.

There were a total of 531 votes for Elena Lasconi, Octavian Berceanu obtained 25 votes, while Dumitru Stanca only six votes. Elena Lasconi thus obtained 94.32% of the votes validly cast, Berceanu 4.44%, and Stanca 1.24%.

In the internal race for the designation of the USR candidate for the presidential elections, the following registered: USR president, Elena Lasconi, and two members of USR Olt – Dumitru Stanca and USR Bucharest – Octavian Berceanu.

In an exclusive interview for “Adevărul”, Elena Lasconi explained the reasons that led her to run for the USR for the presidential elections this fall.

“I decided to run for the presidential elections because I can no longer be a spectator to see how the country is going and we only stay with the PSD. I felt that I had to do this, that I could no longer stand aside”said Elena Lasconi for “Adevărul”.

The president of USR will have discussions in the next period regarding a possible alliance with Nicolae Ciucă, the president of PNL: “I will talk to Mr. Nicolae Ciucă next week and we will set a later meeting”.

In the 2008 election campaign in America, Barack Obama traveled many thousands of kilometers in a coach, stopping in hundreds of towns and cities and talking to many people on a peer-to-peer basis.

And in the electoral campaign for the presidential elections, Elena Lasconi will go to many localities of the country and talk to people face to face.

“It is essential to go on the street, talk to people, tell them what your program is in a language that everyone can understand. I will extend to the national level the example from Câmpulung, where I have been many times in the neighborhoods and talked to many people, listened to their problems and I looked for solutions and I will go into the country to many villages and communes to talk to the people directly, face to face. 2024 will be the year of peak change for Romania”Elena Lasconi revealed for “Adevărul”.

Candidate from the USR for the presidential elections and one of the most appreciated leaders in politics and public administration, Elena Lasconi has a special message for the Romanians who will vote in the presidential elections in the fall: “My message to the Romanians who will go to the polls in the fall is to vote for a free Romania, because otherwise we will never come back, we are going back to the past, vote for the future”.

The mayor of the municipality of Câmpulung Muscel, who in 2020 produced a big surprise in the local elections, winning the mayor’s office with almost 57% of the votes, was re-elected in this year’s local elections with an even better score, of almost 70% of the votes.

Elena Lasconi, one of the most loved and appreciated stars from PRO TV, left in December 2019, after 24 years from the station where she devoted herself. And in 2020 she ran for Câmpulung Muscel City Hall, the city where she bought a house and to which she is very attached.

In her first term as mayor, Elena Lasconi obtained over 100 million lei from PNRR for development projects in Câmpulung, and the started projects exceeded 400 million lei, an amount that represented the city’s budget for 40 years.

Born on April 20, 1972, in Haţeg, Elena Lasconi worked at PROTV since 1995, initially being a presenter and correspondent of the station from Deva. He made hundreds of reports with and about the miners from Valea Jiului.

After the mining raid in 1999, he arrived at PRO TV Bucharest, where he was the presenter of the morning and noon PRO TV News. After that he was a special and war correspondent. He broadcasted from the earthquake in Turkey in 1999 which claimed almost 20 thousand lives. He was also one of the correspondents who transmitted information about the visit of Pope John Paul II, the solar eclipse of 1999, the “Nouă ne pasă” campaign of 2000 (an unprecedented campaign in Romania to help flood victims from Banat and Transylvania). Elena Lasconi was also in Afghanistan as a journalist.
