News for high school graduates who enroll in college during this period: 19 specializations within 16 state and private faculties could be abolished starting this year, according to a draft Government decision. The decision was put up for public debate by the Ministry of Education.
Among the universities that liquidate specializations are also private educational institutions
The changes in the degree fields were proposed by the respective educational institutions following decisions adopted in the University Senate. The institutions include nine universities. Of these, four are private educational institutions.
At the same time, a Government Decision regarding the fields and programs of accredited master’s university studies and the maximum number of students that can be educated was put into public consultation.
The liquidation of a study program means that the institution can no longer organize registrations for that field in the respective school year, and the specialization will be abolished when the already enrolled students complete the respective bachelor’s/master’s cycle.
List of faculties with specializations that will be liquidated
National University of Science and Technology Polytechnic University of Bucharest:
- The Economic Engineering specialization in the electrical, electronic and energy field within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is abolished;
- The operational transport systems specialization of the Faculty of Biotechnical Systems Engineering is abolished.
“Aurel Vlaicu” University from Arad:
- The Knitting and Garment Technology specialization within the Faculty of Engineering is liquidated.
Technical University of Cluj Napoca:
- The Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Robotics and Production Management abandons the Industrial Economic Engineering specialization (in English).
“Lucian Blaga” University from Sibiu:
- The specialization Industrial Engineering (in English) of the Faculty of Engineering is abolished.
“Ștefan cel Mare” University from Suceava:
- At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Automotive and Robotics, the specialization Equipment for industrial processes is being liquidated;
- At the Faculty of Letters and Communication Sciences, the specialization “Romanian language and literature – A modern language and literature (French, German) is being liquidated.
West University of Timişoara:
- The Cartography specialization within the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography will be abolished;
- The Applied Informatics specialization within the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics will be abolished.
The Romanian-American University of Bucharest:
- The Faculty of International Affairs abandons the Economics and International Affairs specialization.
Western University “Vasile Goldiș” from Arad:
- The Faculty of Socio-Human Sciences and Physical Education and Sport is liquidating the History, International Relations and European Studies sections.
“Hyperion” University from Bucharest:
- The History specialization within the Faculty of Social, Human and Natural Sciences is abolished.
Upper Normal School – Bucharest (SNSB):
- Within the field of master’s studies in Biology, the specialization Biological Chemistry is abolished;
- The specializations Analysis and modeling by differential and stochastic equations, Logic and formal specifications and Fundamental structures with applications in algebra, geometry and topology are abolished within the field of Master’s studies in Mathematics.
“Ștefan Lupașcu” Foundation – Institute of European Studies in Iasi:
- The Public Administration specialization within the Administrative Sciences undergraduate field is liquidated;
- The Management specialization within the field with the same name is liquidated.
New specializations
Another novelty, writes edupedu.ro, is represented by the establishment of 2 specializations at the level of undergraduate university studies:
- “Intendance” at the Faculty of Command and General Staff of the “Carol I” National Defense University in Bucharest. This change is made at the level of the Military Science, Intelligence and Public Order field of study.
- “Geoinformatics” at the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography of the West University of Timișoara. The new specialization is part of the Applied Sciences field of study.
