Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix in a race where the teams’ strategy made the difference. McLaren had emotions after an unexpected move from Ferrari, who called Lewis Hamilton to the pits early.
However, the Briton was later penalized for speeding on the pit line, and the Scuderia’s plan no longer had the desired effect.
Oscar Piastri, leading the race in the first part, was used by McLaren to keep Hamilton behind, but this strategy cost him. The Australian later had gearbox problems and lost the chance to fight for victory. Max Verstappen took advantage of the situation and together with Red Bull managed the end of the race excellently, finishing on the podium.
Lando Norris was the first to see the checkered flag and take victory at the Hungaroring. Max Verstappen and Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished in the next two places, the Mercedes driver achieving one of the best performances of the day.
Starting further back on the grid, Antonelli recovered four positions and finished the race in third place, ahead of Lewis Hamilton. In contrast, George Russell, one of the main contenders for the title, did not have as successful a race and only finished in seventh position.
