The president of the Club Farul Constanța, Gheorghe Popescu (57 years old), said on Wednesday, in a press conference, that it would be good for Gheorghe Hagi, a coach who gave up this week the technical management of the Dobrogea band, to go to another championship.
Hagi and Popescu’s sister -in -laws no longer form a team
Asked about the rumors regarding Hagi’s taking over a team from the Arab area, Popescu stated:
“I would like to take this step for him. Because it would be important from a financial point of view. Plus he would go to another championship, much stronger, even if it is Saudi Arabia or Arab Emirates … But it would be good to leave, to break a little for his psyche.
Gică is 10 years old on the bench of this team and it was not an easy time. To wake up at every beginning of the season with a budget deficit that you do not know where to take, it is not simple. But Gică stayed here, led the team in very, very delicate moments, but also in sensational moments. Because everything that has been building here is due to him”.
Popescu mentioned that Gheorghe Hagi does not regret that last year he did not accept the offer of the Romanian Football Federation to take over the national team of Romania.
“Gică had the opportunity to take over the national team of Romania and did not take it … No, it does not regret it now. But you know how Gică always says, life is made of elections. Then he considered it best to stay at the Lighthouse. This is when I do not know another Romanian player to love the national team more than Gică”, Said Popescu.
The coach Gheorghe Hagi gave up, on June 2, the function of technical manager of the football team Farul Constanța. Hagi was leading the Constanta Lighthouse in the summer of 2021. At the same time, the majority shareholder of the club, he won the title with the Lighthouse in the 2022-2023 edition of the Superligii.
In the previous season, the Lighthouse ended in 11th in the Superligion ranking, saving from relegation in the last stages.
Gică Popescu remained the president of the club, to collaborate with the new coach, Ianis Zicu (41 years old).
