A driver from Bucharest was caught in traffic after running a red light and tried to “solve” the situation on the spot, offering the policeman money, along with the car’s documents. When he refused, the driver was not discouraged, but increased the stake 10 times.
A driver from Bucharest chose a criminal case, after which he was placed under judicial control for 60 days, after he insisted on bribing a policeman who stopped him in traffic for running a red light at an intersection.
The 38-year-old man gave the policeman from the Road Brigade 1,000 lei, together with the car’s documents, when the agent asked for the documents for control. When he refused the money, the driver did not give in and insisted, promising him a sum 10 times larger, if he closes the orcs and lets him go.
As a result of the investigations, the reason why the man was willing to pay over 2,000 euros came to light: not only had he run the red light at the traffic light, but his license was suspended.
“On June 1, 2026, the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court initiated the criminal action against a defendant (a 38-year-old man), investigated for the crime of bribery.
From the evidence administered, it emerged that, on the same date, around 08:30, in the city of Bucharest, Sector 2, the defendant was stopped in traffic by a senior police officer from the DGPMB – Bucharest Road Brigade, after crossing the intersection on the red light. In this context, the defendant handed the policeman, together with the documents of the vehicle, the amount of 1,000 lei, so that he would not carry out the necessary checks and not find that he had the right to drive while suspended, which would have led to the preparation of a criminal case. The policeman refused, which is why the defendant promised him the additional remittance of 2,000 euros for the same purpose”. the Capital Prosecutor’s Office announced in a press release.
After the policeman’s refusal, the case was taken over by the prosecutors, and the driver was placed under judicial control for 60 days.
The investigations are continued by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court together with the policemen from the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – the Bucharest Economic-Financial Crime Investigation Brigade.
