The occasion is only good for an escape to your favorite place or simply for rest, which we miss more and more due to the daily hustle and bustle.

Many of us want to escape from the urban crowd and discover lesser-known places, and our country does not lack such places. We always discover something new – from hidden, authentic villages, full of history, to fortresses that offer a unique perspective on Romanian architecture.

The villages of Hoghilag and Mălâncrav in Sibiu, the Archia Mansion in Deva or the Patrisiei Inn on Transfăgărășan are just some of the places waiting to be discovered.

Malâncrav from Sibiu

The village of Mălâncrav seems detached from the stories of the grandparents, who, not having internet, mobile telephony and other modern “entertainments”, preoccupied themselves with traditional work.

Tourists, especially foreigners, are attracted by the customs that are still preserved in the small Sibiu town and come to visit it.

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1305 and is said to have been founded about 100 years earlier. More than 10% of the 1,000 inhabitants are Saxons, and the population is quite young. As an example, 220 children are enrolled in the village school.

Hoghilag village – the land of tuberoses

It is documented in a document from 1335, which refers to a priest, named Johannes, from the Archdeaconry of Târnava. Around 1900 most of the Saxon population immigrated to the US, mainly to work in the steel mills and sausage factories of Chicago and Detroit.
