An order of the CNAS president establishes that the validity of the certificate that takes the place of the health card is extended until the duplicate card is issued, according to Agerpres.

Specifically, this is valid until we receive a duplicate card.

Until now, the validity period of the certificate was 60 days, thus requiring the periodic issuance of a new certificate, until the new card is issued. The time until the duplicate card is issued can exceed two months, and the insured can be put in the unpleasant situation of making repeated trips to health insurance companies. The measure of extending the validity period of the certificate to replace the default duplicate national card debureaucratizes and streamlines the activity of health insurance companies and reduces the queues at the counters“, stated Valeria Herdea, president of CNAS, quoted in a press release from the institution.

When such certificate is issued

The document is issued for insured persons who apply to the health insurance company for the issuance of a duplicate card, in case of: loss, damage, theft of the original card; the change of the identity data of the holders, compared to those registered on the card.

According to the order, the application for issuing the duplicate card will be completed and signed by the owner, his legal representative or his proxy. This can also be sent by mail or e-mail, if it is accompanied by a copy of the identity document and, as the case may be, other supporting documents, as well as proof of payment of the duplicate card value. In addition, people can receive the certificate that takes the place of a health card by means of remote communication, reports CNAS.

Certificates issued up to the date of entry into force of the mentioned order retain their validity period provided for in them.

Insured persons who have never had a national health card issued can benefit from medical services, medicines and medical devices without having to show the provider a certificate in place of the card.

And the validity of the health cards was extended, it should have been valid for 5 years, but this was extended to 7 years later, in 2018. At the same time, the Covid 19 pandemic led the Government to extend their validity by another 7 years, in the summer of 2020, because many of them would have expired in 2021.
