Due to its particularities, Romanian amber was named Romanian by the geologist Oscar Helm, to differentiate it from other types.
Amber is a fossil resin, being practically a substance secreted by some pine species millions of years ago. In those days, the specialists mention, a large amount of resin oozed from the massive pine trunks, encapsulating everything it encountered: insects, bird flakes, pieces of wood, even small reptiles, such as lizards.
The museum has innovative technologies. A smart display case with a touch screen is functional here, allowing the visitor to explore in detail the objects it contains.
In the Colți museum we also find automated showcases, with synchronized LCD displays and an intelligent lighting system that discreetly guides the visitor's route, live 3D edge furniture, a touchscreen monitor that allows users to access touristic and historical information related to all the rock monuments in the area.
The visitor's experience is also augmented by a soundscape and archival films illustrating the methods of amber extraction and processing captured on film in 1934.
