In recent years, the big cities in Romania have managed to rank very well in the list of the safest cities in the world. Thus, Cluj Napoca, Timișoara, Bucharest or Iași are considered some of the safest cities in the country and even in Europe.

However, specialists claim that not all the necessary aspects have been taken into account and that, to a large extent, only criminality is being talked about.
Are the big cities still safe for Romanian children?
Even if the European rankings show us that many cities in Romania are considered very safe, psychiatrists claim that there are many factors that must be taken into account.
Thus, a “vicious” city cannot be considered safe, especially for uneducated youth.
“Issues related to alcohol, drug or gambling consumption matter a lot. They change the microclimate in a locality. When there are many arcades, bars on the street, this has a big impact on the population, especially on the youth. We can talk especially about the use of drugs, which spoils the climate in a city. The data of the problem changes completely, people with aggressive manifestations can appear, they can also influence other people“, stated Dr. Ovidiu Alexinschi, primary psychiatrist, coordinator of the NoAddict programs.
At the same time, the doctor from Iași claims that young people are the most affected by the mentioned factors, which can influence safety in a city.
“In big cities there is and there is no safety. No one knows what goes on behind the laminated windows of the gambling halls. Many parents don't even know what their children are doing, spending their time with groups, with friends. Many of them end up in these arcades. Alcohol, various substances are consumed around these locations. Education, information and the way in which the educational structure of a young person is prepared, in order not to fall into this seductive net, full of promises and gains. In reality, things go in only one direction: the profit of those who own such places“, adds the doctor from Iași.
