How to turn your child’s artistic talent into a job. stART Scholarships: 10 years of art and dreams realized

The stART Scholarships, a program run by the School of Values in partnership with Provident Financial Romania, with the support of the Ministry of Education, has been supporting the development of the talents of high school students for 10 years. This year, 60 high school students will be selected to be part of the project. Ten scholarships will be awarded each for painting, drawing, music, dance and the arts of the future (vlogging, creative writing or photography). For the first time, ten theater/acting scholarships will also be awarded this year.

Participating students will benefit from support in the total amount of 8,000 lei per year, for each of the 60 available places, as follows: monthly scholarship in the amount of 300 lei and financial support in the amount of 4,400 lei/year. In addition to the scholarship, participants will attend coaching sessions and educational workshops for personal development.

10 years of fulfilling the dreams of talented young people

Over time, the stART scholarships have become a landmark for young people who are passionate about art and who need help at the beginning of their journey. For example, Tudor Oprina benefited from a scholarship that allowed him to follow his passion for vlogging. “My art is a dialogue with the viewer, because he has several ways to react to the material produced by me. Every clip I post on YouTube has a laborious process behind it that involves building the script, assembling frames, editing and many other steps,” he says.

Maria Cirstoiu, also a participant in the bursele stART, tells us about her passion for drawing and her art: “My art is an inner monologue, because I work in the turbulent moments of my life to unload myself through nuances, not through words.”

What activities do the fellows participate in?

The personal development workshops that the participants benefit from are varied and provide a solid foundation for future professional artists. Here are some examples: Emotional Intelligence, Time Management, Financial Education, Decision Making, Personal Branding and Public Speaking, Freelancing and Entrepreneurship, Social Media & Presentation Skills and Persuasive Communication. Since 2014, 370 stART scholarships have been awarded to high school students. They invested the money in the equipment they needed, in the tools, in the courses or in the participation fees for the profile competitions, which brought them one step closer to seeing their dream come true.
