The government led by Vasile Tofan received the vote of confidence of the parliament in Chisinau on Tuesday evening, with the help of the votes of a majority of 53 deputies from the presidential formation Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), while the opposition as a whole voted against the new cabinet.
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan congratulated the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday evening, who received the Parliament’s vote of confidence.

Vasile Tofan, a 44-year-old businessman, had been appointed prime minister by the pro-European president Maia Sandu after the resignation on July 3 of prime minister Alexandru Munteanu, who reasoned that he could no longer “exercise his mandate in accordance with his principles and convictions”.
The new prime minister declared that the priorities of his executive will be focused on the acceleration of economic growth, efficiency and the advancement of the European integration process. “We will listen, we will decide and we will implement. I choose to work for a European economy and an efficient state”, he said from the legislative platform, according to Moldpres.
The vote of confidence was granted after a meeting of more than nine hours, during which, during one hour, Vasile Tofan presented the government program, after which he answered, for more than five hours, the questions of the deputies.
He mentioned that the priority with which this government will start is to bring back confidence, energy and initiative in the economy and underlined its objective to complete the EU accession negotiations and prepare the signing of the Accession Treaty by the end of 2028.
“It is an ambitious calendar. It will not be achieved through declarations, but through applied laws, functional institutions and projects executed on time. In 2026, we must open all six negotiation clusters, and the annual rate of implementation of commitments must exceed 90%”, emphasized Vasile Tofan.
Among other priorities stated by him are the modernization of about 300 kilometers of roads in the coming years, investments of 6 billion lei in education and 7 billion lei in agriculture, the integration of at least 100,000 people on the labor market, the creation of about three thousand new places in nurseries, the modernization of the health system.
