The Romanian tennis team of Romania lost the matches with Canada (0-3) and Japan (0-3) in the qualifications for the final tournament at Billie Jean King Cup, after the most important players refused to come to the national team.

Jaqueline Cristian, Gabriela Ruse and Ana Bogdan invoked that they are preparing for the slag season, and the matches hosted by Tokyo are playing on the hard surface, so coach Horia Tecău was forced to call four beginners. Anca Todoni (105 WTA at Simple) and Miriam Bulgaru (211 WTA) played simply, and Georgia Crăciun (996 in double), Ilinca Amariei (385 to double) and Mara Gae (512 double) evolved in double matches.
