Instagram will introduce a new version, classified PG-13, intended for adolescent users, with restrictions on content. Changes are intended to make the experience of teenagers safer and more suitable for age.

According to the new system, users under 18 will be automatically placed in the 13+ setting and will be able to opt for exit only with parents’ permission.
While teenage accounts are already limiting sexual content, graphic images and adult themes, such as tobacco or alcohol, the new PG-13 rules will further restrict the visual material, according to TheGuardian.
Meta said that updates will hide or not recommend posts with vulgar language, dangerous stunts or content that can encourage harmful behaviors, including marijuana objects.
“Although there are differences between movies and social media, we have created these changes for the 13+ experience to be similar to watching a PG-13 movie.”said Meta.
The measure comes after more research has shown that the current Instagram safety tools are largely inefficient. Meta rejected these conclusions, stressing that parents have solid tools to monitor the activity of adolescents.
The British communication regulatory authority, of offcom, asked social media companies to adopt “An approach that will put the safety in the first place,” warning that platforms that do not comply with the rules will be sanctioned.
According to the quoted publication, the new PG-13 checks will be originally implemented in the US, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, with a global launch planned for the beginning of next year.
