President Klaus Iohannis was received on Saturday by his counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at Bellevue Palace, Germany. The two heads of state encouraged the development of economic cooperation and bilateral investments. The discussions also looked at the security situation in Europe.

On the agenda of the discussions between the two heads of state were “the cooperation between Romania and Germany, the interpersonal dimension of this relationship, the development of political dialogue and economic ties, the deepening of collaboration at the EU level, including the strengthening of European security, as well as topics of priority interest on the international agenda”according to a press release from the Presidential Administration.
Also, the two heads of state encouraged the development of economic cooperation and bilateral investments, Germany being, for many years, Romania’s first commercial partner and the second largest investor in the Romanian economy.
According to the quoted source, “the security of the European continent was another important theme of the dialogue, and the President of Romania thanked his counterpart for the significant contribution of Germany, as an Ally, to ensuring the security of our country and strengthening the Eastern Flank of NATO”.
“President Klaus Iohannis emphasized, including from the perspective of installing a new Administration at the White House, at the beginning of next year, the need to strengthen the transatlantic relationship in order to further ensure Europe’s security in the face of current threats. Romania and Germany will continue to support Ukraine to resist Russian aggression, as well as its and the Republic of Moldova’s European path“, the statement also states.
