The Romanian Tennis Open ended on Sunday with the victory of Argentinian Mariano Navone, who won his first ATP title at the Țiriac Open tournament (ATP 250), endowed with total prizes of 612,620 euros and hosted by the “Simona Halep” National Tennis Center in Bucharest, after defeating the Spaniard Daniel Merida in the final, with 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Ion Țiriac, 86 years old, the “spiritual father” of the tournament that bears his name, was not present at the final nor at the awarding of the trophies. He was replaced by his “twin” Ilie Năstase (79 years old), who handed him the loser’s trophy.
Ion Alexandru Țiriac, 49 years old, the son of the billionaire Ion Țiriac, came down to the clay court and captured all the attention with the speech held at the award ceremony of the ATP tournament in Bucharest.
With residence in Dubai and recently separated from tennis player Soarana Cîrstea – at the tournament in Linz (Austria), Țiriac jr. he stays more around the Capital. He addressed a current issue, the war in the Middle East.
“(…) I will also say a few words in English, because we are watched in 110 countries and by many televisions. Guys, congratulations! A really great week for you. Thank you very much and I hope to see you in the years to come! (no message addressed to the finalists).
Today is Easter Sunday for both of you. On behalf of the people of Romania and on my behalf, thank you for coming to Romania and I wish you a Happy Easter! I have two more things to say.
I think this Easter Sunday is probably one of the most important of the last decades. I think it is the right time to turn our backs on conflicts and turn our faces to God!
It doesn’t matter who the God is, what the religion is, if you come from Iran, Israel, the United States… Wherever you come from! It is time to understand that there is no weapon, no president that is more powerful than the wisdom and teachings of our God“, were the words of the heir to the Țiriac empire, according to gsp.ro.
