Inter Milan got another positive result in the pre-season after beating Juventus 2-1 in Perth at Optus Stadium. For the team prepared by Cristi Chivu, it was the penultimate test before the start of the new season.
Inter mostly controlled the game and managed to break away with a two goal difference. Federico Dimarco opened the scoring in the 20th minute, after a phase built on the left side. Bonny broke into the area and sent the ball into the center of the box, and the Italian finished accurately with a shot into the far corner.
Chivu’s team increased their advantage after the break. In the 62nd minute, Diouf scored for 2-0, following a combination with Esposito. Juventus tried to come back at the end and reduced the gap in the 85th minute, through Conceicao, but Inter held on until the final whistle. The game in Perth started 12 minutes late. The start was postponed due to an artistic moment organized on the field after the exit of the two teams from the locker rooms.
The last test before the start of the season
Inter have just one test match before the official start of the season. Cristi Chivu’s team will meet Betis on August 15.
So far, the Italian team has played three training games: they beat Karlsruher 2-1, drew with Manchester City, 1-1 (but prevailed in the penalty shoot-out, score 3-1), and ended the duel with rival AC Milan in a draw, 1-1.
The new Serie A season will begin for Inter on August 22, when Chivu’s side will play at home against Monza.
Cristi Chivu: “We lack physical condition!”
“We can always do better. The training camp ended in the best possible way, without injuries and I would say with a good evolution. If Inter is ready? Not yet. We lack physical condition, we still need to train to shine. I’m talking about the second half, which I didn’t like at all. We gave up the ground and were dribbled many times.
Juventus is a good team, well trained. The warm-up matches count for little. Juventus have quality players, they are a strong team, they will have a say this season. I don’t want to talk about hierarchies, you know that for me there are no holders. Everyone has the opportunity to contribute to our cause!”, said Cristi Chivu after the match, quoted by the Italian press.
