Romanians choose their president for the next five years. The voting process started in the diaspora on Thursday at 10:00 pm (Romania time), with the opening of the first polling station in Auckland, New Zealand. Romanian citizens from abroad have three days to express their electoral option, until Sunday, May 18, at 9:00 pm (Romania time). In the country, the vote takes place on Sunday between 7:00 and 21:00.

Until Friday, at 10 o’clock, 4,400 people had voted in the Republic of Moldova, that is with almost 3,000 voters more than in the first round, on May 4, when at the same time 1,500 voters had voted.

In the diaspora, where the vote is organized on three days, over one million voters are expected, and in the country 17,988,218 citizens with voting rights are expected.

Final race, between Nicușor Dan and George Simion

At the second round of the presidential elections 2025, the two finalists are George Simion (the alliance candidate for the union of Romanians), who in the first round obtained 3,862,761 votes (40.96%), and Nicuşor Dan (independent candidate), with 1,979,767 votes (20.99%) in the first round.

The latest published opinion poll, conducted by Atlasintel, showed that Nicuşor Dan is credited with 48.7% of the total votes of those who responded to the questionnaire, while the golden candidate, George Simion, is at 47.8%.
