The University of Craiova is preparing to launch its own beer, after the club registered its brand with OSIM Maximum Pilsner. The chosen name is inspired by the famous “Craiova Maxima” generation, which wrote history in Romanian football at the beginning of the 80s.
The process began in December 2025, when the club submitted the application for registration of the trademark, and on April 30, 2026 it was approved and published in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property. Thus, the University of Craiova takes an important step towards launching a range of products under its own brand, joining the important clubs in the world that have chosen to develop their own trademarks.
A wide range of products and services
The decision was published in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property, where it is stated that the request of the University of Craiova was accepted for several classes of products and services, such as:
- Beer and non-alcoholic drinks, mineral and carbonated waters, fruit drinks, etc.;
- Alcoholic drinks containing fruit, wine, brandy, cocktails, gin, rum, vodka, etc.;
- Prints on paper, cardboard, plastic material;
- Umbrellas and parasols, satchels, rucksacks, wallets;
- clothing and footwear;
- Ashtrays, lighters, match boxes;
- Advertising, including promotion of products and services of third parties through sponsorship;
- Online ordering services, etc.
Where would the products of the University of Craiova be marketed
The application for the registration of the Maxima Pilsner trademark was submitted by U Craiova 1948 Club Sportiv SA, together with the intellectual property agency Weizmann Ariana & Partners. With the approval of the brand, the University of Craiova obtained the exclusive rights to use the name Maxima Pilsner for the authorized products and services. Thus, the club can develop its own commercial brand, launching, for example, a beer dedicated to supporters, special editions on the occasion of important matches or various promotional products, such as mugs, glasses or other personalized items.
If the project will be put into practice, the beer could be sold at the “Ion Oblemenco” stadium, in the club’s official stores or even in the store chains in Oltenia. Most likely, however, Craiova University will not produce the drink on its own, but will collaborate with a beer producer, who will manufacture the product under the club’s license.
