Measles claimed two lives: a 7-month-old child and a 53-year-old woman. Over 500 new cases in the last week

Measles claimed two more lives, and 503 new cases were reported in the past week, according to the National Institute of Public Health. It is about a 7-month-old boy and a 53-year-old woman from Fetești, Ialomita County, whose vaccination history was unknown.

According to the National Institute of Public Health, the little one did not meet the conditions to be vaccinated with ROR and had comorbidities – congenital cataracts.

We remind you that, normally, at the age of one year, the first dose of MMR vaccine can be administered. However, after the measles epidemic was declared on December 5, 2023, family doctors can also administer the vaccine to babies from the age of 9 months. The second dose of MMR vaccine is given at the age of 5-7 years.

A number of 21 deaths due to measles have been reported in Romania, starting from January 1, 2023 and until now. In the same period, 20,538 cases were reported.
