Medals for Romanian athletes participating in the European Throwing Cup

Romanian athletes Bianca Ghelber (hammer) and Alexandru Novac (javelin) won silver medals on Sunday at the European Throws Cup in Leiria (Portugal), writes Agerpres.

In the women's hammer throw event, Bianca Florentina Ghelber won the silver medal with 71.66 meters. The gold was won by the Danish athlete Katrine Koch Jacobsen, with 71.95 meters, while the bronze went to the Italian Sara Fantini, with 70.58 meters.

In the javelin event, Alexandru Mihăiţă Novac took second place, with 80.73 meters, surpassed by the Ukrainian Artur Felfner, 81.89 meters. The podium was completed by the Greek Ioannis Kyriazis, with 80.52 meters.

Vlad Alexandru Turcu won bronze in the javelin throw, Under-23 category, with 74.51 meters. The first two places were occupied by the Italian Giovanni Frattini, with 76.21 meters, and by the Turkish Muhammet Hanifi Zengin, with 76.15 meters.

Rares Andrei Toader came close to a place on the podium, placing fourth in the final of the shot put event, with 20.43 meters, ahead of the Italian Zane Weir, 21.55 meters, the British Scott Lincoln, 20.98 meters, and by the Bosnian Mesud Pezer, 20.58 meters.

On Saturday, Alin Alexandru Firfirică managed to win the gold medal in the discus throw event.

Regarding the medal ranking, Romania ranks fifth, with one gold, two silver and one bronze, after Ukraine (2-1-0), Italy (2-0-3), Poland (2-0- 0) and Germany (1-4-1).
