PNL announced the suspension of Mihai Barbu “from all positions held within the party”, on Thursday evening, in the context of the DNA file targeting him.

The president of PNL Vaslui, Mihai Barbu, was suspended from all political positions on Thursday.
“Following the measures ordered by the criminal investigation bodies regarding Mihai Barbu, he is suspended, with immediate effect, from all positions held within the party, including the capacity of president of PNL Vaslui and treasurer of PNL, for the duration of the application of judicial review”. according to a PNL press release.
PNL claims that “will analyze the situation of Mihai Barbu according to the evolution of the file and the subsequent legal clarifications”.
“The party remains firmly committed to respecting the law, integrity and ethical standards that it promotes in political and public activity. The National Liberal Party respects the principle of the presumption of innocence, as well as the independence of judicial institutions”, it is also stated in the information sent by the Press Office of the PNL.
On Thursday, the DNA placed Mihai Barbu under judicial control for a period of 60 days.
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate, DNA prosecutors – Iaşi Territorial Service have ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings and the taking of judicial control measures for 60 days, starting from November 6, against Mihai Barbu, president of the Vaslui county branch of a political party and president of the Authority for Railway Reform, for using influence or authority in order to obtain money, goods or other benefits for himself or for another inappropriate.
“In order to facilitate obtaining for the defendant BF the sum of approximately 3,000,000 euros from DSVSA Vaslui, as a result of a compensation file submitted by his company, starting from February 2025 until now, the defendant Barbu Mihai would have exercised his influence and political authority to mediate a meeting of the defendant BF with high-ranking state officials, with the director of ANSVSA and with various politicians and, at the same time, would have exerted pressure on the director of ANSVSA”prosecutors say.
According to the same source, Barbu would have promised the defendant BF that he would cause the director of DSVSA Vaslui to cancel the measures taken by the officials of DSVSA Vaslui regarding the irregularities found within the farms owned by the latter’s company or, if this is not possible, that he would take steps to dismiss that person from the position of director of DSVSA Vaslui.
During the time that he is under judicial control, Barbu must comply with a series of obligations, including: to appear whenever he is called to the criminal prosecution body, not to leave the territory of Romania without the consent of the DNA prosecutors, not to communicate directly or indirectly, in any way, with the persons mentioned in the ordinance ordering the judicial control and not to exercise the function of president of the Vaslui county branch of a political party.
The defendant Barbu Mihai’s attention was drawn to the fact that, in case of bad faith violation of his obligations, the measure of judicial control can be replaced by the measure of house arrest or the measure of preventive arrest.
The defendant was informed of the procedural status and the criminal charges, in accordance with the provisions of art. 309 Criminal Procedure Code.
The president of PNL Vaslui, Mihai Barbu, the party’s treasurer, arrived on Thursday at the headquarters of the DNA Iasi, where he was summoned in connection with the case in which the Vaslui businessman Fanel Bogos was detained, along with three other people, for instigation to blackmail and buying influence, both in continued form. The liberal leader from Vaslui did not make statements to the press, only mentioning that he does not know why he was called by the prosecutors.
