The model Cristina Perez Galcenco died at only 21 years old, in an event that shocked the world of fashion and those close to her. The young woman, the daughter of former Spanish goalkeeper Ignacio “Nacho” Perez and Moldovan Tatiana Galcenco, was found breathless in her home in Malaga, the Spanish press notes.
Spanish authorities stated that no signs of violence were discovered and that the death was of natural causes, an extremely rare event for someone so young and with no known health problems.
Cristina Perez started practicing rhythmic gymnastics, but in recent years she has devoted all her attention to modeling. The young woman had become a household name in the fashion industry, participating in Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks and collaborating with luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton.
Those who knew her were deeply affected by the news of her passing. Graciela Suarez, the director of an event Cristina was attending, said it was “devastated” and announced that the young woman will be honored at the end of the week, during the Campoamor fashion show.
Jose Ignacio Perez Solmo, known as “Nachos”Cristina’s father, was a goalkeeper at Aviles, Huelva, Sabadell and Langreo, playing in the lower divisions in Spain. The peak of his career was at Sporting Gijon, a team with which he played in the first division in the mid-70s.
Cristina Perez Galcenco’s death raises alarm bells about young people’s health even in the absence of known ailments, and the fashion community will keep her memory alive with tributes this week.
