PSD Iași announced that the mayor of Gorban, Silviu Isari, member of PMP, and the mayor of Mirceşti commune, Leon Bălteanu, elected on the USR lists, will run for the party in the local elections of 2024. At the same time, the PSD Iași municipal branch also announced on Sunday welcoming 80 new members into the party.

According to some political sources cited by News.ro, PSD Iasi is also in negotiations with other mayors from the county. PSD Iasi has 41 mayors in the 98 localities in Iasi county.

At the same time, the PSD Iasi municipal branch also announced on Sunday the reception of 80 new members into the party.

Chain changes between parties

And a former organizational leader of the AUR recently announced that he switched to the PSD. It is about the former president of the AUR Giurgiu Municipal Organization, Sorin Marian Ruse, who chose to leave the party led by George Simion after he was not appointed the party's candidate for mayor.

Moreover, in recent weeks, the transfers of people between the parties have continued. PSD Olt announced on Thursday that several local politicians, including two mayors, three vice mayors and more than 10 local councilors, abandoned PNL to join the social democratic formation, PSD currently having more than 100 mayors.

Recently, the PNL leader of Mehedinţi, Virgil Popescu, announced that 15 organizations of AUR Mehedinţi have joined the Mehedinţi liberals. In a message posted on Facebook, Virgil Popescu thanked those who took this step.

George Stângă, the president of PNL Galați, announced that approximately 500 PMP members, including the interim leader and the general secretary of the Popular Party, are moving to the liberal camp.

AUR announced on Wednesday that over 150 mayors, vice-mayors, local and county councilors from PNL and PSD have joined the formation, following the discussions for the merging of the elections, among them the deputy of Iași, Marius Ostaficiuc, and the MEP Tudor Ciuhodaru have been confirmed.

The current situation is unprecedented, given that all the parliamentary parties have shown their willingness to accept political paths, in order to strengthen themselves in view of the four rounds of elections in 2024. Thus, not only PNL and PSD have open doors, but also USR and AUR.

The current phenomenon of inter-party moves is provided for in a 2019 ordinance that seeks to stop the habit of political partisanship among local elected officials. The document states that “the mayor's mandate ends, by right”, in case of losing, “through resignation, the quality of membership of the political party or the national minority organization on whose list he was elected”.
