Nicușor Dan believes that the resizing of the US troops is “a gesture with a certain symbolism”, but we cannot talk about an impairment of security

“Mr. Rutte will come to Bucharest on Wednesday, and on Thursday we open the NATO Forum dedicated to the defense industry. (…)

From the security point of view, these very days we have a large NATO exercise on Romanian territory, with over 5,000 soldiers. The NATO industry forum is organized once every two years, and now it takes place in Bucharest”, stated the president.

Regarding the addition of NATO troops, other than the American ones, Nicușor Dan announced that “there are discussions”.

Asked about the discussions in the US Congress, where a group of lawmakers is preparing a bill aimed at blocking the Trump administration’s plan to reduce the military presence, Nicușor Dan stated that Romania is a safe country.

It is an internal debate, in which we do not interfere. From a security perspective, Romania is a safe country. The relationship between Romania and the USA is stable and predictable. It is, of course, a gesture with a certain symbolism, but in no case can we talk about an impairment of security.”

In the context of a future visit to the White House, Nicușor Dan declared that the increase of the American economic presence in Romania is the most important aspect.

The most important aspect in the future relationship between the USA and Romania is a much greater economic presence of American companies in our country. This is, in fact, the main stake of the visit, and it must be prepared very well from an economic point of view.”

Asked about collaboration with the future mayor, regardless of the party he belongs to, Nicușor Dan stated that the priority is the referendum organized in Bucharest in 2024.

“Before December 7, there is a referendum on two fundamental issues: one related to the urban planning law and the other to the tax code and the national budget law — areas in which, as president, I have a say. I will not repeat the reasons why these questions can correct the problems that have affected Bucharest for a long time.”
