The water crisis in Prahova and Dâmbovița brings back the issue of competence in state institutions. President Nicușor Dan states that management positions in public structures must be depoliticized and occupied exclusively on professional criteria.
The hydrological crisis triggered at the Paltinu Dam, which left tens of thousands of people in Prahova and Dâmbovița without drinking water, revealed major coordination deficiencies between the responsible institutions. In this context, President Nicușor Dan demands that all management positions in the state’s key institutions be filled strictly on the basis of professional skills.
Through a message posted on Wednesday evening on his Facebook page, Nicusor Dan conveys that the inability to correctly anticipate the consequences of an action and the lack of communication between state institutions represents a vulnerability that must be corrected, and the first measure would be the depoliticization of management positions in state institutions.
“The disastrous situation at the Paltinu Dam, which generated a crisis of proportions for the people of Prahova and Dâmbovița counties, shows how serious the consequences can become of the lack of proper anticipation and communication between state institutions. This vulnerability must be remedied in the future. In the development of technical documentation, it is mandatory to take into account all possible scenarios, so that the relevant information is available to decision-makers.
At this point, attention should be focused primarily on finding solutions. Political struggles and statements with an electoral stake does not help anything.
The control started to analyze the situation in Paltinu will determine who was at fault, and all those guilty must pay. But beyond this assessment, it is certain that hiring in leadership positions at the level of various state authorities must be done only on the basis of competence criteria.
