Petrişor Peiu: We destroyed our energy, industry and transport, trying to reduce “pollution”

The leader of the AUR senators, Petrişor Peiu, states that Romania has destroyed its energy, industry and transport “for alms” trying to reduce the alleged pollution, although the values are 30% lower than in the EU.

“We destroyed our energy, industry and transport, trying to reduce “pollution”: our pollution is anyway 30% lower than in the EU! And the other EU states did not kill either their energy or their industry as wildly as was done in Romania! The result: today we have a backward economy, totally different from the European model”, wrote on Facebook, on Wednesday, the leader of the AUR senators.

Petrisor Peiu states that “the supreme indicator of the backwardness of the Romanian economy compared to the EU average is the fact that, here, agriculture generates more carbon dioxide than industry or transport”: “This is how low industry and transport have reached here”.

“To understand how aberrant the energy and industrial policies in Romania were after joining the EU and their disastrous effect on the economy, we have a new indicator: greenhouse gas emissions, the “enemy” against which our governments have been fighting for 18 years. Our government has killed its industry and continues to do so: in Romania, industrial emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in 2024 decreased by 39.2% compared to the level registered in 2008, thus being 24% below the European Union average”, says the AUR senator.

According to Peiu, as a whole, Romania’s greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 30% from 2008 to 2024.

The leader of the AUR senators appreciates that “the worst is the picture of our economy in relation to the EU economy”:

  • here, energy production contributes only 13.6% to the total GHG (greenhouse gases), while in the EU we have a 27.4% share of energy in the total GHG, double that is!
  • here the share of the manufacturing industry is 17.5%, and the EU average is 20.3%;
  • here, the share of agriculture is 20%, the EU average is 10.8%, twice less!
  • with us, the share of transport is 6.5%, in the EU we have an average of 27% (23.8+3.2%), four times higher!
  • here the share of households is 23.4%, the EU average is 12%, half!
  • here, the share of garbage is 6.8%, the EU average is 3.2%, half!
