Oana Roman made a surprising comparison between two four-star hotels, one in Predeal and one in Cannes. The star booked a four-night stay in the mountains, for two people (one adult and one child), and another five-night stay in France.

The result was unexpected: “Here’s the Cannes booking! At this price I had a 10% discount, plus a loyalty bonus. I paid the equivalent of 2,200 lei”Oana Roman wrote on Instagram.

For the five nights in Cannes, the star paid 521.80 euros (about 2,200 lei), while for four nights at a four-star hotel in Predeal, the cost was 3,000 lei, about 1,000 lei more.

The comparison made by Oana Roman brought back into focus the problem of the increasing prices of accommodation in Romania. Many Romanians complain that domestic holidays end up being more expensive than those abroad, even in exclusive cities like Cannes.

Unpleasant experience with a package from England

In addition to the discussions about tourism, Oana Roman also told an unpleasant incident related to an order from abroad. The star wanted to buy a pair of tennis shoes that were not available in Romania and was helped by a friend from England. The package was sent via DHL, but the surprise came on delivery.

“First of all, I tell you never to order anything from England that comes to Romania via DHL, because you will pay for the products twice“, warned Oana Roman.

She explained that although the product cost £114 and shipping £50, the courier company set a declared value of £150 and applied VAT and additional customs duties. “I paid 50 pounds for shipping, when the sneakers cost 114 pounds, and after doing the paperwork, DHL asked me for customs, VAT and shipping, once again, in the amount of 100 euros. Basically, they decided that the declared value of the product was 150 pounds, even though I sent them the invoice which showed in black and white the price of the sneakers at 114 pounds”the star told, quoted by Click!.

Oana Roman calculated that, in total, she paid almost double the value of the product: “For a pair of tennis shoes that cost 114 lira, I paid 50 lira for shipping and they asked me for 500 lei of VAT and customs duties. I basically paid him double or something. A joke!“.

The star advised followers to be careful when ordering products from abroad, to avoid such unpleasant situations.
