PSD representatives want the distance between the two parties to be clear. Social democrats will avoid any action or approach that could be perceived as a political support or partnership with AUR.

“Commitment respected: PSD will not make an alliance with AUR! The National Political Council of the Social Democratic Party decided today, unanimously, to support two political proposals, submitted by PSD president Marcel Ciolacu. More precisely: PSD will not form an alliance or a political collaboration with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) party, neither in the Parliament nor in the Government, after the parliamentary and presidential elections in 2024. If the PSD candidate in the presidential elections becomes The President of Romania, he will not designate one prime minister from AUR”PSD announced.

According to the PSD, this decision was symbolically approved by the PSD leaders as early as yesterday evening, October 30. During today, October 31, all the internal procedures from the statutory point of view were completed.

The Social Democratic Party publicly reconfirms its commitment to protect and promote European objectives and values, to collaborate with political formations that promote democratic values, social responsibility and respect for the diversity of opinions. Thus, the decisions taken are aimed at the leadership of the AUR, their uncivilized conduct and are based on the major differences in ideology and vision between the PSD and the AUR regarding the approach to social, economic and political issues, as well as the long-term development directions for Romania. PSD respects the political option of supporters and those who vote for the AUR party”emphasizes the formation.

PSD representatives added that political stability is necessary in Romania, in which politicians do not have radical speeches and assume responsibility for leadership.
