Borussia Dortmund led at the break, with the goal scored by the Dutch international Donyell Malen (24), but PSV came back after the break and equalized through Luuk De Jong (56 – penalty).
The hosts had the first notable opportunity, but Tillman (16) was inaccurate.
Borussia Dortmund opened the scoring through Malen (24), former player of the local team, with a shot to the long corner. Malen, who had not scored in the Champions League since December 2021, had 22 consecutive shots on target in the competition.
PSV Eindhoven came close to equalizing, but Johan Bakayoko (37) did not hit the goal from a good position, after which debutant goalkeeper Meyer (40) stopped the shot sent by Saibari.
In the second half, “the veteran” Hummels fouled Tillman in the box, and Luuk De Jong restored the tie (56), this being the 28th goal scored this season by the striker from Batavia in all competitions.
Borussia Dortmund looked for the winning goal, but goalkeeper Benitez rejected Malen's shot (59), and Marius Wolf (72) hit the crossbar with a spectacular execution.
The last opportunity belonged to the hosts, but Meyer saved Dest's corner kick (81).
PSV Eindhoven have now gone 31 consecutive games without defeat at the Philips Stadion in all competitions.
The second leg will be played in Dortmund on March 13.
