Playwright Radu F. Alexandru died on Friday, December 26, at the age of 82. The Bucharest National Theater (TNB) reported that the writer “leaves behind a prodigious dramaturgical and cinematographic creation”.
“He leaves behind a prodigious dramaturgical and cinematic creation, being one of the most played dramatic authors, on the stages of some theaters in Bucharest and in the country.
By disappearing to Radu F. Alexandru, Romanian culture loses one of its exceptional personalities”, is the TNB message.
“He was a senator in three legislatures of the Romanian Parliament, carrying out a political activity of rare moral probity. He had a remarkable publicity activity as a producer of radio and television shows”, according to the theater.
According to Radio România Cultural, Radu F. Alexandru was born on July 12, 1943, in Bucharest and was a Romanian playwright and screenwriter with an interdisciplinary training in mathematics, philosophy and theater direction, doctor of the National University of Theater and Cinematography.
He signed plays such as “Nothing about Hamlet”, “The Story of My Father”, “Tsunami” or “The Last Wish”, exploring themes of identity, memory and human fragility.
He collaborated with directors such as Dan Pița and Alexa Visarion, was a publicist and producer of cultural shows and received numerous awards, including UNITER and “Ion Luca Caragiale”. He was a member of the Writers’ Union and president of the Dramaturgy Branch.
The funeral will take place on Monday, December 29, at 12:00, at the Jewish Cemetery in Giurgiului Street no. 2.
