The REGINA MARIA health network announces the relocation of the REGINA MARIA Maternity Hospital Bucharest in the Ponderas Academic Hospital. The decision comes in response to the growing need to provide complex medical care for high-risk pregnancies and obstetric cases that require full multidisciplinary hospital infrastructure. The new entity operates under the name of Maternity and Fetal and Neonatal Surgery Centerstrengthening the expertise of the team coordinated by Dr. Hadi Rahimian.
“Every day we see pregnant women who need more than a safe delivery. They need a complex medical team working together – obstetrician, surgeon, cardiologist, neonatologist, anesthesiologist. Every other day we have a case that requires such a multidisciplinary team. The relocation of the Maternity Hospital in Ponderas gives us the opportunity to manage all these situations in an environment fully prepared for emergencies and complications”, he explains
Dr. Hadi Rahimian.
Thus, the team of obstetrics-gynecology and neonatology doctors brings to Ponderas solid expertise and the highest international standards in mother and child care. Integrated in multidisciplinary teams, this initiative supports the accelerated growth strategy of the hospital, which in recent years has expanded its portfolio by adding new specialties such as neurology and cardiovascular surgery. The new Maternity and Fetal and Neonatal Surgery Center are operational from the end of 2025, completing the range of medical services offered to patients.
From medical firsts to a new level of expertise
The team of super-specialized doctors in maternal-fetal surgery led by Dr. Hadi Rahimian is recognized for carrying out some unique interventions in Romania, such as the first fetal myelomeningocele operation, the intrauterine treatment of bilateral fetal hydrothorax or the emergency intervention for a pregnant woman diagnosed with cervical cancer in the 14th week of pregnancy.
“Such cases are impossible to manage without a complex infrastructure, without access to modern technologies and without medical teams that communicate effectively. That is precisely why this relocation means, in fact, a natural evolution of our expertise – we are taking maternal-fetal surgery to the next level,” adds Dr. Rahimian.
A place where top medicine means daily collaboration
In the new space, medical teams from all specialties work together, day in and day out, to provide patients with comprehensive care, regardless of the complexity of the case. “Every morning at Ponderas, there is a multidisciplinary on-call report, where specialists from all fields discuss complex cases. This permanent collaboration allows quick decisions to be made and provides maximum safety for our patients,” explains Prof. Dr. Cătălin Copăescu, medical director of Ponderas Academic Hospital.
The neonatology ward is ready to save the smallest and most fragile patients
The new one neonatology ward of Ponderas Hospital can handle including cases of extreme prematurityoffering specialized care to babies born right from 24 weeks of pregnancy.
The team of neonatologists, made up of doctors with extensive experience in caring for critical newborns, benefits from state-of-the-art medical equipment: ventilators for neonatal respiratory support, high-performance incubators, multi-parameter monitors and complete neonatal intensive care infrastructure.
“These babies come into the world earlier than they should, some weighing less than 600 grams. Every minute counts. Every medical decision is vital. In the new ward we can give these babies a real chance to live and grow up healthy,” he emphasizes Dr. Hadi Rahimian.
Complete infrastructure, designed for the safety of the mother and the newborn
With the move of the maternity ward and the Fetal and Neonatal Surgery Center to Ponderas Academic Hospital, it increases its capacity, reaching 393 beds of continuous and day hospitalization and 38 intensive care beds for adults, children and neonatal intensive care, 14 operating rooms and 2 natural birth rooms.
