Romania resumed studies in double major degree programs this year, after several years of interruption. The first generation of students was admitted in the academic year 2025-2026.

The academic year 2025 – 2026 marks the resumption of studies in double specialization bachelor’s programs, both in specialty and didactic, after several years of interruption, with the first generation of students being admitted to this year’s sessions, the Ministry of Education announces.
“As rector, I supported in Law 199/2023 and through UBB’s actions European elements that are subsumed under what some call the “Bologna Reform 2.0” and I am glad that as a minister I initiated and/or approved some of them (some were already initiated during the years 2023 – 2024, and others are to come). For example, in the specific case of double specializations, both in the specialty and didactic, after various analyzes and debates, we supported this approach, including through the UBB proposals, knowing the efficiency of the “major + minor” structure in the American system, which in the legislative approach in the country became “main specialization + secondary specialization”.
I now look with pleasure that we have the first generations starting the academic year 2025 – 2026 in this structure, which will increase their chances of integration into the labor market, but will also help their integration into pre-university education through wider curricular areas, thus increasing children’s access to qualified teachers. From the preliminary discussions with those involved, I understood that there was interest from students for these programs and that the start was more than encouraging”, transmitted the Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David.
In total, there are 209 undergraduate degree programs with double specialization that can be organized within the universities. The graduate of this type of program receives a single diploma attesting to all the skills acquired. The diploma received will allow the graduate to enroll in master’s degree programs.
