Salina Târgu Ocna has been reopened to visitors

Salina Târgu Ocna was opened on Friday, after several months since it was closed because it was endangering the lives of visitors.

“After a lot of work, we are glad to let you know that reopening the leisure base From the Trotuș – Salina Târgu Ocna – Salt Mine Targu Ocna will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025 ”the administrators announced on their Facebook page.

Salina Târgu Ocna was closed on October 8, 2024, after massive salt boulders, weighing dozens of kilograms, suddenly broke off the gallery ceiling and fell on the tourist route, just a few meters from visitors.

Although the event was accompanied by a loud noise and a large amount of dust, no tourist was injured. Despite the fact that a portion of the ceiling collapsed, Salina remained open to the public for four days, and the affected area was only isolated.

Following the incident, the National Salt Society decided to immediately close the saline to ensure the safety of the visitors. Thus, an internal investigation has been started to establish the causes of the collapse.

Given the severity of the situation and their responsibility in managing saline, its director and deputy were released from positions.

Salina Târgu Ocna is the third largest salt and one of the oldest in Romania, belonging to the national society of the “Salrom” Salt has the largest treatment base in the country, located in the Trotuș mine at 240 m deep, which offers conditions for relaxation, movement and treatment of respiratory disorders.

Inside, one of the few places of worship in Romania is built in saline, with the dedication of Saint Varvara. There is also a Salt Training and Operation Museum.

Salina Târgu Ocna is located in the heart of Moldova, on the Potoreasca Valley of Trotuş, in the perimeter of Târgu Ocna, Bacău county, the access to the salt mine being provided by the Adjud-Ciceu railway and by the national road 12A, through the municipality of Oneşti.

There is an old legend that in the area there were secular forests where they had their dwells and robbers. It is said that such a haiduc, being pursued by the power, fell into a salt pit, the discovery escaping it from punishment.
