Students and kindergarten children will have five vacation periods in the 2026-2027 school year, according to the structure approved by the Ministry of Education. The school year starts on 7 September 2026 and ends on 18 June 2027 for most pupils, but holiday periods differ according to the calendar set at national and county level.
The 2026-2027 school year will have 36 weeks of classes, and students will benefit from the fall vacation, winter vacation, a mobile vacation determined by the school inspectorates, spring vacation and summer vacation.
The structure of the school year was established by order of the Minister of Education and stipulates that each educational unit must communicate to students and parents by April 1, 2026 the week chosen for the mobile vacation from February-March 2027.
When are the autumn and winter holidays scheduled in 2026
The first student vacation of the 2026-2027 school year is the fall vacation.
This is scheduled during:
October 24, 2026 – November 1, 2026
Students will return to classes on Monday 2 November 2026 for the second school term of the first learning module.
After about seven weeks of classes, students will enter the winter break, which coincides with the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The winter break will take place between:
December 23, 2026 – January 10, 2027
Classes will resume on Monday, January 11, 2027.
When is the ski and Easter holidays in 2027
The ski holiday, also known as the February mobile holiday, will be set differently from one county to another.
The county school inspectorates and the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest will decide the exact week, after consulting the students, parents and teachers.
The period in which this holiday can be set is:
15 February – 7 March 2027
Each school will communicate the chosen period by April 1, 2026.
After the mobile vacation, students will continue their classes until the spring vacation, scheduled during the Easter holidays.
Spring Break 2027 will be between:
April 24, 2027 – May 4, 2027
Students will return to school on Wednesday, May 5, 2027 for the last class period of the school year.
When does summer vacation 2027 start
The summer vacation begins after the end of classes on June 18, 2027.
Students will go on vacation during:
June 19, 2027 – September 5, 2027
The new school year 2027-2028 will start in September 2027, according to the calendar that will be later approved by the Ministry of Education.
However, there are exceptions for certain classes:
- 12th grade day, 13th grade evening and part-time students finish their courses on June 4, 2027;
- 8th grade students finish their courses on June 11, 2027;
- classes in high school technological education and vocational education have classes until June 25, 2027, with the exceptions provided in the order.
Calendar of school holidays in 2026-2027
The full school holiday calendar for the year 2026-2027 is as follows:
- Start of courses: September 7, 2026
- Autumn vacation: October 24 – November 1, 2026
- Winter break: December 23, 2026 – January 10, 2027
- Mobile vacation (ski vacation): one week between February 15 and March 7, 2027, established by the county school inspectorates
- Spring Break: April 24 – May 4, 2027
- Summer vacation: June 19 – September 5, 2027
In the 2026-2027 school year, the national programs “Different School” and “Green Week” will take place between September 7, 2026 and April 23, 2027. Each program will last for five consecutive working days, and the exact period will be determined by each educational unit.
Also, on October 5, 2026 – International Education Day, as well as on the days off provided by law, no classes will be organized.
