Shaorma is no longer the first choice of Romanians. Which is now the favorite dish in our country, with the largest number of orders

The burger has become the new king of food orders in Romania, thus dethroning the famous shaorma from the top of Romanians’ culinary preferences.

According to an analysis carried out by Glovo, cited by Gândul, no less than 7.7 million burgers were ordered through the platform in the last 12 months.

The data shows that Romania has risen to third place globally in terms of burger consumption through Glovo, being surpassed only by Spain and Italy. Poland and Morocco follow in the world ranking.

Bucharest even ranks first globally in the consumption of burgers via the delivery app. In the last 12 months, more than 3.2 million burgers were ordered in the Capital, surpassing major cities such as Barcelona and Milan.

According to the analysis, almost two out of five burgers ordered in Romania come from Bucharest. Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Constanța and Timișoara follow in the top of the cities with the biggest consumers of burgers.

The month of May 2026 also brought an impressive record: more than 84,000 burgers were ordered in a single week. The busiest day for burger orders was May 8, 2026, when more than 14,000 burgers were delivered nationwide.

The most popular variety among Romanians is the double beef burger, with two buns and two slices of cheese, which clearly surpasses the classic version.

Consumer preferences include chicken burgers, smashed burger variants, classic burgers, but also those with bacon, pork or vegetarian options.

Glovo’s analysis shows that burgers are especially ordered at dinner, with consumption peaking around 7pm. The interval 18:00 – 20:00 is the busiest for deliveries of this preparation.

In terms of days of the week, Friday generates the highest volume of orders, followed by Saturday and Thursday.

The ranking of Romanians’ favorite dishes on the delivery platform is completed by pizza, in second place, followed by fried potatoes. Shaorma, considered for years in a row one of the most loved fast food dishes in Romania, only dropped to the fourth position.
