“Romania needs a good government. Romania does not need any government. It is important to know what the future government will do, not just to put some politicians in office”Siegfried Muresan wrote on his Facebook page.

He added: “That’s why ministers matter and the government program matters”.

“The National Liberal Party does not give blank cheques. We will only vote for a serious government with a serious program and serious ministers”the MEP concluded.

The statements come after the president Nicușor Dan declared that “don’t ask for much” from the parliamentary parties, but only the formation of a majority to vote for a new government.

“I am… in the situation we are in after two months without a government, I am not asking for much. I am asking for there to be 233 people that I am sure will vote. For there to be the 233 people, for them to understand each other, there must be an agreement in principle, but from my perspective, I am not asking for any agreement, no conditions, just for there to be 233 people”said Nicușor Dan.

Asked how long he is willing to wait before appointing a new prime minister, the head of state reiterated that the decision depends on the parliamentary parties.

“I’m waiting for the parties. I repeat, the responsibility is with them and I’m waiting for them to come up with majority solutions. I think people’s expectation is that we get out of this political crisis”added Nicușor Dan.

Political sources claim that there is growing pressure to quickly form a government, even on the basis of major compromises between the formations. These indicated that Nicușor Dan would not have been completely opposed to the scenario in which the Vestea Government would have passed with the help of AUR votes. However, the head of state does not accept an Executive that includes members of the political formation led by George Simion.
