Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea defeated American Sofia Kenin 6-3, 7-6 (7/2) on Sunday in the first round of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), equipped with total prizes of 3,211,715 dollars.

Cîrstea (33 years, 22 WTA) prevailed after one hour and 43 minutes in which she managed no less than 18 aces in the duel with Kenin (25 years, 55 WTA). Cîrstea, who secured a check for $20,650 and 65 WTA points, will face the winner of Ukrainian Daiana Iastremska and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, seed number 13, in the second round.
