Sorin Huțanu missed the super rally champion title by half a second

Title champion in the category of front-wheel drive super rally cars, Sorin Huțanu missed the second consecutive title by only half a second, so he will add to his record the trophy dedicated to this year’s runner-up in the super-competition founded by Mihai Leu in 2017.

To be sure that he gets the much-dreamed-of trophy, Huțanu needed a victory at the final stage in Bucharest, hosted in front of almost 10,000 spectators on Calea Victoriei, on a specially arranged street circuit.

First in official training, with a time of 02:16.555 at the end of the 3.75 kilometers, the Bucharest pilot improved his time in the competition heats, reaching 02:15.969, but it was not enough because his rival, Claudiu Motoc, reached the finish half a second faster, in 02:15.436.

Thus, after the 4 stages organized in Alba Iulia, Timișoara, Hunedoara and Bucharest, Huțanu collected 68 points, despite the fact that he abandoned the first stage just before the heats due to some problems, even though he posted the best time. It is the second place on the podium occupied by him after the 3rd place in Group 3 of the National Coastal Speed Championship.

Almost 10,000 spectators were present at the UniCredit Leasing Trophy in Bucharest, reaching edition number 8. Among those who have started are Simone Tempestini, Vali Porcișteanu, Bogdan Marișca, Radu Benea or Costel Cășuneanu.

It was a unique experience this year for me. I started motorsport late, so the only competition is with myself, to be better than the year before. Although I have now taken the title of runner-up, my times have improved, I feel much more mature behind the wheel and I think that together with my team we have progressed from stage to stage“, Huțanu said.

In the current season, he also added the title of team champion with Hospice Casa Speranței in the National Coastal Speed Championship, where he is a colleague of Radu Benea, Jerome France and Nicolas Benea.
