Students ask the Government solutions, not recommendations. “How many tragedies do you need to act preventively?”

The National Council of Students (CNE) asks the Government Solutions, not recommendations, given that over 4,000 schools in Romania operate without having all the necessary authorizations, which represents a risk to students, but also for all those involved in the educational act.

“How many tragedies do you need to act preventively?” asks the representatives of the CNE, reminding some situations in which students or teachers were endangered in school. One of them took place right at the end of January, when a piece of plaster fell from the ceiling in a bedroom where students of the “Vasile Lascăr” Police Agents are housed. Also, in 2023, a student died after the wall of the boarding school “Tamasi Aron” from Odorheiu Secuiesc collapsed over several children staying there.

“Over 4000 schools in Romania operate without the necessary authorizations, which causes us to advocate for the actors involved in education to benefit from a comprehensive environment, which will ensure an efficient accumulation of information. Contrary to expectations, at present, they are exposed daily to physical and psychological risks.

We express our deep regret towards recent incidents, who have shown that school, the place where students need to feel protected and sustained, can easily become a promoting space of restlessness and insecurity.

We cannot remain indifferent to the incident from the “Vasile Lascăr” Police Agents School in Campina or the tragic event that took place in the “Tamasi Aron” High School of Odorheiu Secuiesc, where a student lost his life. . We also point out the endangering of the teacher from the “Elena Ghiba Birta” National College in Arad.

Each such event once again highlighted the vulnerability of the educational act, acute lack of resources and insufficient protective measures. Unfortunately, all these cases inevitably lead us to a necessary introspection: how many such tragedies should happen so that, instead of reacting late, we begin to take concrete measures to prevent them? “say the representatives of the students.

In this context, they say that they are waiting for solutions and not promises and that the educational system needs much more things than changing the framework plans, which should be focused on the needs of the students.

“For too long, these problems are superficially treated. It is a reality that affects us all, and indifference can no longer be an option. In this way, we ask the decision makers implementable solutions, not any promises ”, Request CNE.

Other requests from students refer to “redefining the standard cost per student”, to strengthen the educational institutions with seismic risk, to the restoration of electrical and heating installations or ensuring the appropriate sanitary conditions.

“The underfunding and lack of adequate infrastructure not only harm the quality of the educational act, but negatively influences the natural course of things, endangering the lives of people”, warns the National Council of Students.
