The president of AUR, George Simion, appeared on Saturday at the hotel in Timișoara where an important PSD meeting is taking place, during which the social democrats are discussing the strategy for the future of government. It is the last regional meeting, aimed at deciding whether the political support for the cabinet of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will be withdrawn.
The AUR leader rejected any speculation regarding a possible involvement in the social-democrats’ discussions, claiming that his visit to Timișoara has a personal reason.
“I’m going to be a godfather at a baptism, that’s why I came, it was planned for about two months“, Simion told journalists.
Asked about the presence of the AUR leader in Timișoara, the deputy prime minister and PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu had a short reaction. “To be healthy is his job” without providing additional explanations, according to Antena3 CNN.
The appearance of George Simion comes a day after information was published in the public space regarding a recent meeting between him and Călin Georgescu, at the National Library of Romania.
According to the accounts and images captured by Gândul, the meeting between the two lasted about an hour. Simion arrived first at the meeting, and Călin Georgescu arrived a few minutes later, accompanied by his driver.
The two held discussions in a secluded area of the building, out of sight, and eventually left the location separately. All this time, Călin Georgescu’s driver guarded the hall.
The vice-president of AUR, Petrișor Peiu, avoided giving details about the meeting, saying: “I can’t comment why 2 people met (…) I don’t know what they commented”.
