More than 37,000 candidates are expected on Tuesday for the written test of the 2026 national tenure competition, the exam that can secure them a position for an indefinite period in pre-university education. The testing will take place in 117 centers organized throughout the country, and the first results will be published on July 28.
The written test starts at 9:00 a.m. and is part of the national competition to fill vacant or reserved teaching positions in pre-university education units. Candidates have previously passed special classroom inspections or practical tests, which are a mandatory stage of the competition.
All 37,385 candidates who obtained at least grade 5 in the preliminary stages have the right to participate in the written test. Among them, 7,510 come from the current promotion of pedagogical lyceums, university bachelor’s and master’s programs or teaching staff training departments, according to the Ministry of Education and Research.
At the national level, more than 41,600 registration files were submitted, but some candidates chose to register in several counties, so the number of files exceeds the number of participants eligible for the exam.
Tenure 2026. The most sought-after disciplines
The most entries were recorded for: preschool education with teaching in Romanian – over 8,500 files; primary education with teaching in Romanian – over 6,300; physical education and sports – over 3,400; Romanian language and literature – over 2,250; special psychopedagogy – over 2,000, according to News.ro.
In the written test, both specialist knowledge and teaching skills are evaluated, based on the programs approved by the Ministry of Education.
Special conditions for candidates with disabilities
Candidates will have four hours to solve the topics. In special situations, the duration can be extended by one or two hours for people with visual impairments or for other candidates who require adaptation of the examination conditions.
The Ministry specifies that 44 such situations were approved in 16 counties and in Bucharest, for which measures to equalize opportunities were instituted.
When the results will be displayed
The first results will be published on July 28, both at the offices of school inspectorates and online. Appeals can be submitted on the same day, until 21:00, and on July 29, until 12:00.
The final results will be displayed on August 4.
The distribution of vacant positions for employment for an indefinite period will take place in public meetings organized on August 5-6.
In order to obtain a tenured position, candidates must obtain a minimum grade of 7 in both the written test and the special classroom inspection or practical test.
To fill a substitute position, it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 5 in both tests.
The subjects and correction scales will be published on Tuesday, after the end of the exam, on the dedicated platform of the Ministry of Education. The works will be digitally evaluated in national centers organized by discipline, and all the rooms involved in the competition are supervised by audio-video.
The Ministry of Education provides the TELVERDE line 0800.801.100 on Tuesdays, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., to report any problems regarding the organization of the exam.
