The agenda of Friday’s Government meeting does not include the decision to set the date of the presidential elections. What are the options?

PSD and PNL did not agree on this issue and attacked each other. If the normative act is not adopted, the election will not be able to take place in September as PSD wants.

According to news.ro, the draft Government Resolution for setting the date of the elections is not on the agenda. If the normative act is not adopted during Friday, the elections will not be able to take place in September, as PSD wants.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu asked the Minister of the Interior, Cătălin Predoiu, to prepare the draft of the Government Decision regarding the presidential elections, referring to the dates of September 15 or 29 for the first round of voting.

Coalition leaders met this week to discuss the election date, but without success.

The PSD wants September 15 or 29, while the PNL insists on an intermediate deadline, in October, or the constitutional deadlines – November 10 and 24.

Initially, the political leaders announced that there would be a new coalition meeting on Friday, but on Thursday the PSD leader, Marcel Ciolacu, stated that this meeting was not called.

We have not yet decided to have a coalition meeting. It is obvious that PNL wants to change the rules of the game. If their decision remains the same, there is no point in holding a coalition meeting“, said the prime minister, on Thursday, in Brussels.

PSD and PNL, through the voices of several leaders, attacked each other on Thursday over the date of the elections.

Nicolae Ciucă reacted to Marcel Ciolacu’s statements and stated that he did not understand his reaction.

Honestly, I really don’t understand why this reaction. It’s very hot outside, yes, I can understand that. We are happy with the result of the match of the Romanian team last night, yes, and I use this opportunity to congratulate the players of the national football team. But when it comes to presidential election, we must stay within the legal provisions and within the legal deadlines. As such, let’s sit down and discuss, let’s discuss based on principles, based on rules, not in such a way as to follow the personal agenda of PSD leaders“, stated Nicolae Ionel Ciucă, PNL president.

After the latest polls that place the president of the PNL, Nicolae Ciuca, in fourth place in the intention to vote for the first seat in the state, the liberals are pushing a scenario for elections in November. Catalin Predoiu, the Minister of the Interior, has a few more days to come up with the proposal of final dates for the next round of elections.
