Sanitary Inspection, control at the Socola Institute in Iași. Rogobete, about bed bugs in the hospital: The manager took me to clean rooms

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announces, on Tuesday, that the State Sanitary Inspection has started an inspection at the “Socola” Institute of Psychiatry in Iasi, after receiving information that the manager of the unit would have shown him only clean rooms, which look good, during the last visit he made, although the reality in the hospital “is completely different”. If this turns out to be true, the manager of the unit will be fired, Rogobete announces.

“Today, an inspection began, which I think many people were waiting for, at the Socola Psychiatric Hospital. The State Sanitary Inspection from the Ministry of Health traveled yesterday evening – this morning to Iaşi, where an extensive inspection action begins, because I received information that the lady manager took me to the salons where things were fine when I visited and the reality in the hospital is completely different”, Alexandru said on Tuesday Rogobete.

He explained that, having this information, he extended the control with the inspectors from the Ministry of Health who will check each salon.

“If it turns out that the manager only showed me the clean rooms, I assure you that, on the same day, the manager will have the management contract opened by the Ministry of Health”, announced Rogobete.

On October 25, Alexandru Rogobete announced that he would send the State Sanitary Inspection to check the Socola Institute of Psychiatry in Iasi, following the information that a pavilion of this unit was infested with bedbugs.

The minister visited the medical unit to see what the situation is and to decide the measures to be taken.

“I talked with the hospital management and visited the pavilion in question. From the first findings, the management of the health unit reacted accordingly: the pavilion was vacated by patients and the procedures for disinfestation and rehabilitation of the affected spaces were started,” Minister Alexandru Rogobete stated at the time.

He stated that he decided to send the State Sanitary Inspection within the Ministry of Health for a control at the level of the entire hospital.

“We check if all the sanitary procedures and preventive measures are followed properly. I want it to be very clear: the safety of patients and medical personnel is not negotiable!”, declared Alexandru Rogobete.

He argued that such situations should not be hidden, minimized or ignored, but should be reported, investigated and resolved quickly, with responsibility and transparency.

“I am not looking for culprits before having the conclusions of the checks, but I will not tolerate negligence where people’s health can be put at risk. Trust in the health system is also built through the way we recognize and correct problems”, added Alexandru Rogobete.

The manager of the “Socola” Institute of Psychiatry in Iasi, Cristina Dobre, admitted that there were problems in a pavilion related to the presence of bed bugs, but that in the meantime things were resolved.
