The law that increases the share of university internships to 75% passed the Senate

The USR legislative initiative by which the share of internships provided by universities will increase from 50% to 75% was adopted, on Wednesday, December 17, by the Senate with 107 votes “for” 4 votes “against” and 6 abstentions, as a decision-making chamber.

According to USR, the initiative represents “an important step in strengthening the link between university education and the real requirements of the labor market, offering students more opportunities to acquire relevant practical skills already during their studies”.

“Universities must find solutions to increase the number of internships for students, having the flexibility to find solutions on the free market, but also enough time, until the beginning of the 2029-2030 school year, to adapt to the new target, on a correct trajectory and tracked by indicators. The need for students to practice, either in the private sector or in projects provided internally by universities, is very great. Any practical experience in the field for students before they graduating from college will help him immensely in integrating into the labor market”claimed Irineu Darău, quoted by News.ro.

USR believes that the adoption of this legislative initiative will have a positive impact on the educational and professional career of students, contributing to the formation of better prepared, more competitive and more adapted graduates to the current challenges of society and the economy.

After the vote in the Senate, the initiative goes to promulgation.
