The Lucescu family sent today an open letter in which they address “deep thanks” to all public and private institutions, as well as to all the professionals who contributed to the organization and conduct of the funeral ceremony dedicated to coach Mircea Lucescu, who died on April 7 in the University Hospital and was buried with military honors at the Bellu Cemetery.
From SUUB, the Lucescu family would like to thank the staff of the Department of Pathological Anatomy at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, knowing that the technician had been diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago, but no reference is made to the Cardiology Department, where he spent his last days of life.
At the University, the technician was monitored by the doctor Cristian Udroiu, who placed a stent. The head of the Cardiology Department of the University Hospital is Dr. Dragoș Vinereanu (60 years old), the one who revealed Mircea Lucescu’s last wish.
The doctor was responsible for the careful care of “Il Luce” during the past week. According to the specialist, the coach wanted to die on the field, as he had claimed on another occasion.
“At one point he said to me: “Teacher, all I want is to die on the football field”. I could feel him being open, somewhat at peace with himself. He was always sorry that he was not on the field. I mean, that was where his life was.”the doctor told.
Sensing that the medical situation is getting out of control, the Lucescu family urgently brought Marius Andronache, a Romanian cardiologist working in France, for a second medical opinion. The family of “Il Luce” requested that Marius Andronache be present at the meeting where the medical situation of the former selector was discussed.

We – Elena Lucescu, Răzvan Lucescu and the whole family – express our full appreciation for the exemplary way in which all these institutions and teams collaborated, contributing to the conduct of a worthy ceremony, in accordance with the personality and exceptional course of our dear Mircea Lucescu.
During all this time, I felt something I didn’t think was possible in the midst of such pain: that we are not alone.
Indeed, we were never alone. From the time we learned the first news about his state of health until after the funeral, a wave of soul warmth flowed towards us: messages, thoughts and gestures that kept us on our feet.
We will always carry him in our hearts. We know you will wear it too.
With deep gratitude,
The Lucescu family“.
